E-Bike Carbon Programme in Ghana Formally Authorised

We are pleased to share that the electric bicycle mitigation activity of Wahu Mobility Ltd. has been officially authorised by Switzerland and Ghana, in accordance with Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. This groundbreaking initiative, developed in partnership with the KliK Foundation and the respective governments, aims to deploy over 100,000 e-bikes in Ghana by 2030, replacing fossil fuel vehicles.

The programme represents the inaugural transport sector initiative to be endorsed under the Article 6.2 between Ghana and Switzerland. These mitigation activities not only contribute to reducing carbon emissions, but also pave the way for sustainable transport solutions in many other host countries.

The KliK Foundation’s commitment to purchase Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) ensures the financial viability of this project, enabling Ghana to scale up its sustainable mobility efforts.

Looking ahead, the opportunities presented by Article 6 carbon trading are significant, particularly for African host countries. This collaborative approach framework within the Paris Agreement can facilitate the financing and support of innovative projects that promote both economic growth and environmental sustainability for the benefit of all parties and accelerated decarbonisation.

We are congratulating all the partners involved in this transformative journey, being eager to observe the beneficial impact this project will have on Ghana’s economy and environment as it progresses.
